50 fun questions to ask your friends (group chat approved)
For sleepovers, road trips and group chats that have gone suspiciously quiet.
Pictured: a rice grain about to ask a dangerously good question.
Every friend group hits the same wall eventually. Everyone is together, everyone is comfortable, and somehow nobody has anything to say. Or the group chat, once a 300-message-a-day machine, has gone quiet for three days.
The fix is a good question. Here are 50 of them, sorted from easy warm-ups to ones that might start a twenty-minute debate. Pick one, drop it in the chat, and watch what happens.
Easy warm-ups

- What's your go-to order when you can't decide?
- What song have you played way too many times this month?
- What's the worst gift you've ever received (that you pretended to love)?
- If you had a theme song that played when you walked into a room, what would it be?
- What's a small thing that instantly makes your day better?
- What's the most useless talent you have?
- Cereal before milk or milk before cereal? Defend yourself.
- What's the last thing you searched on your phone? (You can say "no comment.")

Would you rather

How to use these without it being weird
Don't read them out like a job interview. Drop one into the conversation and let it run. The best questions turn into stories, and the best stories turn into inside jokes. Also, "pass" is always a valid answer, especially on the deep-ish ones.
And if you want a question list that comes with a score attached, you already know where to go. Take the Rice Purity Test together using our house rules for playing with friends, then settle question 33 for good with the Are You the Red Flag? quiz.
Your turn: take the test
100 questions, about three minutes, one brutal score. Then send it to the group chat.
